The reputation of the Moroccan woman: a reaction of the Moroccan civil society actors

When  Moroccan women strive to improve, have a decent status in the Moroccan society, it suddenly falls on a stereotyped image transmitted by the Arab media, but also abroad  or within their home country.

Starting with the two television series in Kuwait (the animated series "Nabil Abu and Abu ktada") and Egypt (the TV series "al aar"), that broadcasted a fallacious ,exaggerated  image , if not very demeaning of Moroccan women .

Without going into details , Moroccan women are pictured in these series as prostitutes, using black magic to put people of the gulf in the trap  and achieve their goals and so on and so forth. Yes! no one would deny that this is not true, it does ,certainly, however , the Arab media has gone far in its perception of Moroccan women  and the government of these countries did not show any respect  to the kingdom  through this very virtual vision by giving Moroccan women the  wrong etiquette!

Within Morocco ,  some if not most women are also viewed badly by  SOME Moroccan  men who picture them as ;

Materialistic;seeking men with money .

Using black magic to keep their lovers and or  their husbands .

Not as much educated  as women in the Middle East or Europe

These are only  few examples that I believe do exist, YES ! but let`s not  generalize and let`s  unveil it . Unfortunately, the Arab media that went too far ,  also the system in Morocco that encourages  and opens doors to these men from the gulf to come  the so called ``Tourism`` but in reality  the come to lure some of these Moroccan women . Why can`t Morocco be  like Emirates -that doesn`t allow young Moroccan girls to enter the country as a tourist-and do the same to Saudi and Khaliji men?
I am flabbergasted to hear that we don`t have a good reputation in the Arab world and I am given examples that doesn`t reflect the reality –our reality.

The Moroccan civil society actors can do a lot in improving  and showing the real image of the Moroccan woman  through the press medium  and help making  a great number of Moroccan qualified women have a strong representation at the international level namely in the Arab world.

It is very painful that while we are working hard to be at most prominent level  educationally and professionally and get the  positions that honour our country, we would at the end  find ourselves victims  in the hands of  media  , the Media of the Gulf especially and a number of  people from our OWN country  who wrongly exploit  our image  nationally and internationally ! Instead of being with us they are against us!
